Many established entrepreneurs reach a breaking point where the business they built feels like a trap. You've achieved success but lost your joy. This article explores why entrepreneurs outgrow their business models and how to reinvent your business through energetic alignment rather than complete destruction.
You fell out of love with your business.
A thousand different niggles became a blinding moment of clarity. You do not want to do this – not anymore.
You used to be excited. Now it drains you.
You worked to establish your reputation and you did. You built financial security.
All while your joy slowly eroded.
Until you felt trapped by your own success and resentment grew.
The Thought That Won't Go Away
And you thought, “why don’t I just burn it down”.
The thought won’t go away though. It floats through your dreams and worms its way into your day. The fear that it will blow up your whole life is the only thing that stops you.
Did you fall out of love with your profession? Maybe.
Did you fall out of love with your calling? Absolutely not.
You did, however, outgrow the expression of your calling. You are operating below potential and it’s sapping your life force.
How You Outgrew Your Own Business
As a society, we tend to collect certifications and qualifications as a checklist of expertise. But energetically, it is a different story. Every experience and skill development brings a new dimension of your expression into play as it shapes your unique approach to creative solutions. Qualifications aren’t a quality standard as much as they are an influence in how you solve problems.
The same is true of life experiences. The good, bad and ugly develop us in subtle ways that change how we work and what lights us up. These experiences fill in the gaps in our view, which changes how we want to respond.
You begin to see solutions that live outside the scope of your work and you spot needs that aren’t being met but don’t fit into your set-up. Biggest of all is the feeling that you could be putting your expanded skillset to use but doing so would undermine your entire business model.
You become restless to take a different approach, but you are stuck in a model that has no flexibility or room for manoeuvre.
You operate, day in and day out, below your potential. You feel under-challenged.
You outgrew the relationship with your business, as it stood. But you have no idea how to reinvent it without destroying it.
How do you take a successful business and reshape it to reflect who you are now? Without burning it down. Without upending your life.
Why Traditional Business Reinvention Fails
I’ve been through enough of my own iterations to know that it is never a paper exercise. It’s an energetic one.
Business takes you into your head, into logic, facts, data, market gaps and tolerances – so much so that you can silence the one thing that keeps any business alive.
Energy.
Throughout your business development, energy changes its expression in response to your own arc of development. But unlike society, energy doesn’t have time for labels or constants. It likes to flow through change.
This is what keeps it alive.
Business models that are set in stone cannot respond to energetic shifts. If your “field” defines your work, it can trap you in a lesser expression of self.
When Your Label Becomes a Limit
When I started my business, I called myself a marketing consultant and then a marketing mentor. At some point the word marketing became a weight I could no longer carry. It didn’t adequately describe my work which was beginning to bring in all kinds of quirky dimensions. I pushed myself on carrying that label because at least people understood my field. But their expectations matched the label, not what I was offering. I needed to start with a blank sheet to find my angle.
My own experiences kick-started a different approach where energy takes the lead. I personally needed to get out of my head to make these transitions; staying in logic mode kept me in loops of rearranging the pieces. Energy works differently. It speaks a different language.
The Energetic Approach to Business Evolution
We can look at business the conventional way – a series of processes, operations and communications. Or we can work with it as a series of energies that are intrinsically connected to a central power source.
When you want to reinvent a business conventionally, there is an agonising process of review followed by equally agonising strategising and planning, with a rebrand thrown in for good measure.
Taking an energetic approach means that you can work with the individual energies to adjust the nuances of business on the fly. You don’t need to down tools and put all your energy into redirecting your focus, you can achieve it with subtle shifts in real time.
Evolving With Your Business, Not Away From It
The reason this works is because the central power source guides everything. Ensuring my clients are intimately and deeply connected to the central energy of their business means they are always attuned to the direction of travel that keeps them growing as a human being. They don’t fall out of love with their business because it evolves with them.
I work with 40+ different frequencies across the business design spectrum that weave together to form a whole, thriving business. When energetic shifts come along, adaptation can be achieved by adjusting responses to one or two frequencies that realign the whole business.
There is no fixed business model and no constrained positioning, just the freedom to evolve your positioning to match your own energetic shifts and broadening skill set. The fluidity that is instilled by working with the individual energies of the whole keeps a business growing inside and out.
What I love, for my clients, is how they take a run-of-the-mill, conventional label and transform it into a one-of-a-kind, radically innovative concept that blends all of who they are with the deeper, emerging needs of their client base.
And what I love for me, is seeing the biggest grins on my clients when they realise they don’t have to burn it all down, because their passion just reignited.
