The elements are magnetic.
They seem to awaken a deeper part of the self.
Having experienced this myself and worked with the elements in lots of ways over the years, I have come to understand their role in what we create.
They are so much more than the physical resources that create life. They hold the codes of life that organise energy so that it comes into form. They are our interface between spirit and body, thought and life and this is why they are such an important part of our language.
Without the elements, we cannot experience creative expression in any form.
For conscious, spiritual, values-driven people who have chosen to create businesses, these are inevitably profound acts of creative expression.
To create anything from this place draws deeply on your inner world. You know when you are creating from your head because it feels different. Inner creation is energy driven. There is a frequency that is born. Frequency is translated by the elements – they organise the resources for the form which can hold it.
The elements are magnetic and compelling for people because they represent our sensory interactions with life. We sense the form, freshness, warmth, and coolness… these sensations evoke emotions. And so the elements become a representation of how we feel about life, as well as what we create in our lives. When it comes to soul expression, the elements are our emotional language and the physical form of our expression.
For business, this means we can begin to engage with the emotional aspects of creation. These are too often suppressed, disregarded or condemned in business life but they are the difference between a soulless, logical action and one which is an honest expression of who you are and what you are creating.
We can also be more intentional about the act of creation in business; consciously choosing to uphold, embody and express at a soul level leaving behind the crowds and finding our own path.
Everything that is created has a unique blend of elemental energies and each form of consciousness flows through a cycle of creative expression which engages all of the elements in the process.
The potential for unique variations is infinite, hence the variety of life on earth and the subtle or dramatic differences between individuals of the same species.
The form reflects the soul energy and so the blend of energies is one of a kind.
There are five elements in the classical approach: earth, air, fire, water and aether.
Aether is traditionally considered to be spirit, which makes it feel somehow a separate force from us. My experience of this is different. Your energy field becomes full of life force because you are consciously connected to the 4 elements of creation. This is what pulls the aether energy into being – the four elements and your own energy field. Aether is the elemental energy that becomes activated when the other elemental energies are activated because they are held within your energy field.
My focus here is on earth, air, fire and water to help you bring elemental wisdom into play, find some balance and activate some aether energy in your business.
There are two creation energies and two expression energies in the elements. In each case, the pull of one is inwards and the other is outwards. This creates balance and is one of the reasons why it is so important to understand and work with all the elements.
Earth is the first creation energy and it has an inward pull. It’s the energy which draws together the resources and puts the building blocks in place for it to take form. Earth energy is phenomenally creative and capable of astounding ingenuity. It needs structure though because energy has to be held to come into form. Systems, processes, rules etc tend to emerge in earth energy because it’s a way of creating the structure for energy to move into form.
Once energy is directed in Earth, the baton passes to Air. This is where reality and interaction with life begin to impact the form. Air is an expression energy and it is always flowing outwards. It stretches the structures and moves past limits. This is why rules get broken in air energy, it chases the perfect expression. If you are comfortable in Earth energy, the stretching of Air will feel deeply challenging. It is often the first point at which we dig our heels in and resist change.
Once a true expression has been found, the energy moves into the second creation energy which is outward moving – fire. Fire is focused on one thing. It has clarity and determination in this focus. Fire energy concentrates multiple streams of energy into one, like a laser. So much energy comes together that is has huge power. It’s the apex of the creative process as externally expressed. It can be symbolised by the blooming of a flower.
All flowers set seed, which is the pull into the future. It’s a legacy of becoming and hope for what is to come. Fire energy flows into Water energy as the pull strengthens. Water is the second expression energy and its movement is inward. Where air is the mind, water aligns with the emotions and a sense of self. Recalibration and acceptance are essential parts of this energy along with a decision to move forward and evolve. Water energy heralds a depth of enquiry that begins the next cycle of growth and draws the resources together.
In business, this cycle is the birthing process of the core idea, the services, products, communications and more. Resourcing, exploring, creating and growing – this is the business cycle and the phases of growth in a business. This cycle is everywhere we look but we try to control it. Instead, the wisdom we can access within the elements brings new dimensions of understanding and insight that makes flow possible.
The following are some pieces of wisdom shared with me to share with you. Apply them in your business to shift it into a deeper level of creativity and expression.
Earth
There isn’t just one way to do anything. The resources at your disposal (including your creativity) can be used in so many different ways. Give your business the best chance by letting go of what has always been, what others have done or tell you to do and reimagine how to put it together. This simple but profound shift in approach will unlock new opportunities for your business.
Air
The value of what is within will only be known when it is taken outside of you. So your business can only grow if it is allowed to explore, connect, experiment, Connections, interactions, learnings etc make sense of what is and has always been within. It brings clarity. Get more focus by travelling further afield – literally or figuratively.
Fire
You serve no one by being quiet. You have something vital to share. Your business is a way to reach people and create change. Focus the energy and let the power of its concentrated force guide your actions and voice.
Water
There is always more to come. You don’t stop growing. Don’t fear ideas, possibilities or opportunities running out. As you follow your passion, more and more doors will open up. Make space for these to come alive. Don’t crowd them out with what you think you should be pursuing. Space will help you create space. Tightness will create tightness. Business, energy, life crave space. Leave gaps – you will expand into them and you will have more energy and capacity to keep growing.
