The concept of collaboration is one that seems absolutely natural to me.
But it is not something that has found a natural place in our society.
Somehow, we have developed an entrenched form of silo thinking.
We see it in policy decisions where the right-hand makes choices that harm the left hand and vice versa.
We see it in global politics where individual interests never quite give way to collective cooperation.
And we see it in businesses where choices are made that fail to take account of the wider context. Even the most innovative ideas are developed without awareness or consideration of the bigger picture and so, as soon as they are articulated, they are shot down in flames.
It’s not that consensus is the only desirable way forward, frankly we need some radical thinking to shake us out of our collective stupor. But that still leaves the issue of how we think.
Silo thinking will never take us where we need to go.
Collaborative energy is critical to move us off the starting block of intention. We need to become more aware of the ripple effects of our choices and invite in different perspectives to foster that awareness.
The economic models that we currently use to frame business are linear and limiting. Making economic sense is not the same as making sense.
Economic thinking that is separated from the emotional, spiritual and wellbeing pressures simply exacerbates division and destruction.
We need to stop thinking like a cash register and start thinking like humans who only exist because we are part of something bigger than us.
Collaborative principles can be woven into existing models very simply, it doesn’t have to be complex and challenging. Certainly, if we approach it from an intellectual perspective it is a massive undertaking, but we don’t have to work that way. We can work from a more intuitive base to understand where the opportunities are and how to apply them on a case by case basis.
As living beings, we are naturally attuned to the energies all around us. Getting out of our heads and into our inner wisdom is all it takes to begin to re-learn how to translate the messages we receive at a cellular level from the life all around us. It’s a simple shift into a different driver for choice and action and the impacts can change the trajectory of our collective future.
